Please welcome Michael Tomko and Drew Woolley to Chimu Solutions. They only joined last week, but are already hard at work writing articles and curating content for all you footy-fans out there.
Hey soccer fans! My name is Michael Tomko and I am excited to be part of the Chimu Solutions team. I look forward to blogging about soccer and giving readers an inside look at some of the interesting trends in the sport as well as the cutting-edge analysis Chimu is doing to advance the understanding of soccer statistics, matches, trends, teams and players for fans and professionals. It’s an exciting time for soccer analytics!
A little about myself – I received my Bachelor’s degree in sports journalism from the Pennsylvania State University in 2008. I spent the next three years covering all of the Duke University athletic programs for GoDuke.com, the school’s official athletics’ website. I am currently in the process of completing my Master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. I played soccer for 13 years as a youth in various leagues in western Pennsylvania. In high school, I was a starter for the first ever Hickey High School soccer team to reach the state playoffs. I played outside midfield and left fullback. I also bear a striking resemblance to Clint Dempsey!
And I’m Drew Woolley, and I bear no resemblance to any famous footballers. I’m happy to be joining Chimu Solutions and excited to have the chance to take readers into the world of soccer analytics. Numbers don’t always say it all in the beautiful game, but Chimu is exploring the intriguing
uses of statistical analysis in soccer to
better understand the dynamics between the players on the field. I look forward to digging deeper into the numbers game!
I got my Bachelor’s in English at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2010, after which I worked as the news editor for Madison Weekly
News in north Alabama and the staff writer for the National Premier Soccer League club Rocket City United. I am currently earning my Master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. I’m an Arsenal fan, even through seven long and trophyless years, and will support and defend the US National Team ‘til I die.
